o.k. you had three times my time, but i still can see that a sort of semantic shortage in adjectives that are more than 10% appropriate to describe... the rise and the fall, the pleasure and the *aaaargh*, the sooooo too good to be true and the ohnoohnoohnopleasedon'tletthatbe-d'oh!, the dominatrix's harness when she's not on the job and the warm, clean and fluffy coat of the unrelenting ticket inspector...
No matter how much we add to the pool, we will always fall short of a near-accurate description, my friend... Having said that, though, I do oblige:
Amsterdam is much like ending a nice day in a freezing little studio, or a running nose you get from entering a warm house soaked from head to toe.
